Short talk presented at the first plenary of the 35th Meeting of the International Resource Panel, Berlin, 10 June 2026. Talk is essentially about the Global Justice Report released last week by the World Inequality Lab. This report successfully connects sufficiency, planetary habitability and reform of the global financial system. Makes a strong case for global scale redistribution of wealth, significant improvements in human well-being, without breaching the 2 degree carbon cap. While the poor and middle class will benefit, the wealth of the ultra-rich will be reduced substantially. The report will probably be regarded as a recipe for global state socialism by the right, and not Marxist enough by the left. What is welcome is to see an attempt from a broad left position to actually formulate and systematically think through an actual global solution and not just present another critique. This is most refreshing. We need a lot more of this.
