Last week we launched the results of this amazing three year research project that was jointly undertaken by the National Planning Commission, Presidential Climate Commission, Development Bank of Southern Africa and the SA-TIED research partnership which is led by National Treasury. The project was coordinated by a Steering Committee comprising reps from the four partners – I represented the National Planning Commission, but I am also Co-Lead with Georgina Ryan (National Treasury) of Workstream 5 of the SA-TIED partnership. I also participated heavily in the Technical Committee that drafted the assumptions and scenarios for the modelling work. Although the four institutional partners are the authors of this report, I was deeply involved in the coordination of the research and the writing up of the various drafts. I therefore count these reports as part of my own research output. There are four reports: a literature review; a main report comprising three modelled scenarios, a policy and regulatory review, and a market sounding; a CGE modelling of the socio-economic impacts of the energy transition; and micro-economic analysis of the impact of the energy transition on Mpumalanga.
